New Z-Score Area
📊 Explanation of Averages
-
AVG: Simple arithmetic average of all player ratings in matches.
-
AVW: Traditional weighted average. It adjusts player ratings based on the average level of the league or competition, using 6.00 as the reference value.
-
AVW_Z: Z-score normalized rating. It compares a player’s average with the rating distribution of the same season and competition.
This makes performances from different leagues, seasons and historical periods more comparable.
-
TIR_Z: Team Impact Rating Z. It measures how much a player overperformed or underperformed compared to the average level of his own team.
🧮 What is AVW_Z?
AVW_Z is based on the Z-score method. Instead of only shifting ratings toward a common average,
it also considers how spread out the ratings are in that specific season and competition.
AVW_Z = 6 + ((Player AVG - Competition AVG) / Competition STD) × Target STD
In practice, this means that a 6.40 in a very strict season may not be equivalent to a 6.40 in a season where high ratings were common.
AVW_Z tries to make those values more homogeneous.
🎯 What is TIR_Z?
TIR_Z means Team Impact Rating Z.
It measures the player’s impact inside his own team, not only his absolute value.
TIR_Z = 6 + ((Player AVW_Z - Team AVW_Z Average) / Team AVW_Z STD) × 0.30
- 6.00: performance in line with the team average.
- Above 6.00: the player overperformed compared to his teammates.
- Below 6.00: the player underperformed compared to his teammates.
Example: a player with 6.10 in a weak team may have a better TIR_Z than a player with 6.20 in a dominant team,
because the first one stood out more within his own context.

🔁 Classic AVW vs Z-Score Area
DBScalcio now includes two statistical environments:
-
Classic AVW: the original DBScalcio rating system.
-
Z-Score Area: a new parallel version using AVW_Z and TIR_Z to improve comparability across seasons and competitions.
Both systems are useful. AVW is easier and closer to the original rating logic, while AVW_Z is more statistical and better suited for comparisons across different contexts.
